Grignan: one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France

View of castle of Grignan at night

The castle

Arriving in Grignan, you will not be able to remain indifferent.

Installed on its rocky outcrop, the castle is majestic. This Renaissance palace superbly dominates the Tricastin plain.

You can also discover the castle differently, at night, during the sound and light shows organized each summer.

An endearing village

Grignan is a charming village. You can walk along the ramparts, stroll through the alleys and admire the amazing landscape of the plain when you have reached the forecourt of the Saint Sauveur Collegiate Church. Shops selling local products, clothing, jewelleries and souvenirs mingle nicely with typical restaurants and cafes.

A lively village all year round

Grignan has many shops and restaurants open all year round. You can choose between several gourmet restaurants, a starred restaurant Le Clair de Plume, wine bars in the alleys or establishments with family-friendly and/or relaxed atmosphere.

The weekly market which takes place every Tuesday mornings, Place of the mail, is equally appreciated by locals and tourists alike.

Festive evenings

The Gite is less than a kilometer from a well-known cellar offering tastings of wines, local products, truffles, visits and theme evenings: Domaine de Montine. From the cottage, you can walk there.

For the most partygoers, there will also be the CabaRé, Restaurant, Bar Lounge, DJ and live concert. Atmosphere guaranteed with its top programming! Again, this complex is less than 1 km walk from the cottage.

A little history

Grignan is especially known thanks to the letters the Marquise de Sévigné wrote to her daughter when the latter left Paris for Grignan to join her husband, the Governor of Provence during the 17th century.

The lavender flowering : a unique show

Lavender fields as far as the eye can see at the foot of the Chateau de Grignan.

Flowering generally takes place from early-June to the end of July.

We never get tired of it, used to it or not.

truffle

Truffles

The Drome is the first truffles producing department in France.

The black truffle, famous "rabasse" (in Provençal), appears from mid-November to mid-March, especially every Saturday morning on the Richerendes truffle market, the most important in Europe.

 â€‹

L'Enclave des Papes located 10 minutes from Grignan is known for its local products: wine, honey, snails, truffles.

The most famous candy in the Drome is of course nougat.

Nougat of Montélimar

The most famous candy in Drome is of course : "Nougat".

A delicacy based on egg white, honey and almond, it comes in several forms (bar or square), with different flavors (praline, blueberry, salty caramel...) and varied textures (soft or hard).

To ensure that the know-how and the quality of the products are well at hand, we recommend the "Nougats Diane de Poytiers".

You can taste it at the cottage.

This family business has been making nougats in an artisanal way for three generations.

Our favorite: the marron nougat!

The factory is free to visit. Workshops for children are organized every Wednesday of weekdays during school holidays.

Nyons : olives...

... historic center and waterpark

Nyons is also home to several remarkable sites: a historic city centre with covered alleys, the Arcades square and the Roman Bridge dating from the 14th century classified as a historical monument.

Finally, to the delight of children, but also of adults, Nyons has its water park, Nyonsoléiade. It is 1,200m² of slides, waterfalls, rivers and whirlpools as well as 6,000m² of outdoor areas to relax.

The vineyards

Vacqueyras

wine yards in the South of France.

This controlled Designation of Origin is produced in three colours: red, white and rosé. It is the only “left bank” appellation of the Côtes du Rhône in this case. The wines of Vacqueyras have very fine cuvées, we can cite the Tours Castle which is distinguished by a particular elegance. A 45 minutes car drive car from Grignan will lead you there.

Gigondas

With vines located at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, Gigondas is a controlled designation of origin wine, Rhone Coast with in particular rather full-bodied reds. The cottage is located 45 minutes away from those top-notched cellars.

Chateauneuf du Pape

From le Gite les Aiguiers, you will have to drive less than 1 hour to discover Chateauneuf du Pape, its world-famous vineyards and wines and its beautiful former papal residence.
